I'd say that a thread like this requires a gun that is "not stock", that is, it gotta be special somehow...
Jeeze Hopi... I think that's a Mini record. Nice shootin'.

I'll comment... I just got and tested the newest versions... the target and the standard, with the new fatter barrel, and the 6.8 also.

NO change. Still just minis. No better accuracy. Same reliability, same gun, just heavier now... go figure.

Alright, I have something I am having trouble with. My lovely wife purchased a mini 14 for me :) a birthday gift. I have it now and have put ~50 rounds through it with the iron sites, love the gun, love the way it shoots. Hear is the rub. I was given a 5X33L scope made for the .223 round. However the rings that came with the gun, and mount to the receiver, don't fit to the scope. I have picitini rings for this scope but not sure if it would be better to get a rail and use the rings I already have, or get the ruger style rings and avoid the rail. Not to mention finding the ruger type rings is like pulling teeth. Any feedback? Thanks in advance.

Check this mounts, don't know if you like shopping on the site but it's just and idea. Check Ruger sites also they have higher scope rings.

I used these for my SS 581. While not cheap they stay put as the mounting screws are at the same angle as the crescent cuts on the receiver.

Just finished my stock.

581 Series with a factory original wood handguard.
Stripped both the stock and the handguard and refinished with Varathane Golden Mahogany and finished it off with tru-oil.

I think it turned out pretty good. :)

581 Series wearing and Ultimak and Eotech. I have both the black dress and hardwood for her.

base64 08-26-2011 5:04 PM

Heres an old pic of my mini-30 out of state in a ati stock but it's since been bedded in a houge stock for CA compliance.

I actually prefer the houge stock it absorbs a lot of the recoil.

Great 100yd rifle!

On the 2nd picture how's that magazine working out for you? Is that a nickel plated? What brand?

muffpotter 09-03-2011 8:59 AM

not sure of the brand but it is nickel plated and runs flawlessly.

They're be out for range time on Sunday, it's been a long time since they been fired.

DasBoost 10-01-2011 1:08 PM

@base64: lol, I was going to wait until I had everything on it but have cellphone pics for proof. http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/q...1001-00086.jpg http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/q...1001-00085.jpg It truly does feel/look like a scaled-down M-14 and I can't wait to try the tech-sights out and see if the Accu-Strut makes a noticeable improvement as the barrel heats up.

base64 10-01-2011 2:36 PM

Haha I was just kiddin but that's Nice is that the mini-14 or mini-30? My rear factory iron sight has broken off multiple times and I had to buy a new one - it's probably time to upgrade that but it's been such a reliable rifle otherwise that I don't mess with it much.

DasBoost 10-01-2011 5:25 PM

@Base64: I got the joke, but I also realized this is a pic thread, time to put up. Lol. Mini-14, new 581 series. The tech sight was 71 bucks shipped. The rear sight aperture screws out for easy replacement or swapping of different sizes and is protected by outer blades. Knobs for adjustment are a little stiff, ok a lot stiff, but easier than using the tiny allen wrench like on the stock sight, though adjustment is set at 7/8ths MOA per click.

That's not a extended gas ports that's a strut design to stabilize the barrel for better accuracy and to look tacticool. :p
