Gun Buybacks
 

I shed a small tear every time I see a news article where the local police agency held a buyback and then turned around and destroyed all of the guns.

I was curious as to why locals FFL's don't do this and then turn and sell the guns themselves (assuming you have the cash on hand)? Are there restrictions for this type of transaction?

Probably would notbe illegal, however with our media so anti gun these days how would they get the word out that they would offer better prices than the gun buy back program, also there would need to be PPT done and that would mean that if a stolen or illegal gun comes in then it would be illegal for the FFL to buy it.
This would be a major issue.
The gun buy back programs are no questions asked.
Turn it in if illegal, stolen or what ever and get your gift card.
I have to admit this is a good way to get rid of guns that belonged to felons in prison or something to that affect.

I know there is a background check done on purchasers, but is there one done on the firearm? What would happen if a seller isn't on record as having bought the firearm (i.e. wife selling handgun from deceased husband)?

I think a main selling point on gun buybacks is its anonymous.

It's also usually funded from the public trough.
