No you're not wasting your time Choprzrul. This is a fantastic project, this list needs to grow. Keep up the good work.

Wikipedia has great articles on Ballistics, specific cartridges of every conceivable caliber, specific models of firearms. For example, check out the articles on 'Combat Shotgun' and '.257 Roberts' and 'Colt 1911'

The Forgotten Soldier - Guy Sajer and Stalingrad - Theodor Plievier Probably fit better under Fiction, History and Stories

2nd Amendment

Boston's Gun Bible - Boston T Party (2002)
1. Technical Aspects of Firearms; 2. Philosophy of Firearms; 3. Politics. Other themes which are thoughtfully developed in the 848 page book are on the laws governing gun use, women and guns, self-defense, tactics and training, combat rifle history and how to become a rifleman.

You and The Police - Boston T Party (3rd edition 2009)
Constitutional law and the police.

Ricochet - Confessions of a Gun Lobbyist - Richard Feldman (2008)
Insiders view of the NRA and the recent history (last 20 years) of gun control politics. Sometimes critical of the present NRA leadership.
General Gun Knowledge

American Rifle - A Biography - Alexander Rose (2008)
History of the rifle and it's development in America

Gunsmithing

The series of DVD Technical Manual and Armorer's Courses by AGI are excellent. Taught by Bob Dunlap a retired gunsmithing school instructor. Great detail videography. Function, disassembly, cleaning, repair, reassembly. A little pricey at $40 + shipping, you can get them a little cheaper at Midway, or at some gun shows. The last couple of years they've been 3 for $100 at the Big Reno Gun Show.

For long range shooting:

Applied Ballistics for Long-Range Shooting
by Bryan Litz
Price: $39.95 (Hardcover, 536 pages)
Book includes Ballistic Software on CD

Bryan Litz, chief Ballistician for Berger Bullets, has just released an impressive new, hard-cover treatise on external ballistics. While Bryan's 536-page Applied Ballistics for Long-Range Shooting will surely take its place among the "classic" reference books on precision shooting, it does much more than explain theories of bullet flight. Using advanced equipment, Litz measured the actual drag of over 175 popular bullet types in the field. Part III of the book includes the field-tested BCs of all these bullets, AND Litz provides the enhanced G7 BC data, which works better with boat-tail bullets. Armed with this new experimentally-derived data, shooters can now calculate their loads' true trajectories with greater precision than ever before.

One of the best sources for precision reloading and long range shooting is at:
http://www.6mmbr.com/bookreviews.html

They've compiled quite an effective list of solid reference material.

I just started reading "Control" by Glenn Beck and so far it's a great read. I just picked it up yesterday so I am only 50 pages in. So far it's giving me a lot of facts to direct back to antis that I meet. Best thing about it is it's just a paperback so I can pass it out to people I know that are on the fence.

pastureofmuppets 08-25-2013 2:15 AM

I don't see it mentioned...

Surgical Speed Shooting: How to Achieve High-Speed Marksmanship in a Gunfight by Andy Stanford.

It is quite excellent, I know quite a few people who have had "Aha!" moments while reading it, and a lot of big pistol training names acknowledge its importance.

ja308 08-26-2013 10:00 AM

In fiction, author Boston T Party did a nice job with his idea of the free state project with " Molon Labe"

I enjoyed " Black Arrow" by 2A advocate and newspaper man Vin Suprenowitz .sp?

"Point of Impact" was IMO the best written by Steven Hunter and recently a loose version of the book was made into a movie titled Shooter .

"More guns less Crime " John Lott - this book details Lotts scientific study encompassing several counties and years of research . The data is valid to the point where it has not been challenged, nor can it be .

Again by Proffessor Lott, " The Media Bias against Guns " again as with "More Guns, Less Crime, the data is scientifically proven .

An all time favorite of nearly everyone is of course "Atlas Shrugged"
With the recent passing of the health care law, folks may want to revisit " We the Living . Again by Ayn Rand.
Rand and family reportedly escaped communist Russia

ja308 10-01-2013 8:09 PM

Thomas Jefferson fans ( who isn't ) may enjoy "The Jefferson Lies "

Marines, former Marines and those readers who enjoy a page turning novel that reflects its title will certainly enjoy " Essential Liberty by former Marine Rob Olive . It is this writers 1 st book and contains nearly all elements that make an interesting, informative read.
Available from amazon in ebook format for about $6 bucks .

Wow, don't think I ever saw this thread! Great idea chopr!

First, humble opinions:

Can we seperate "History/American History" into it's own category?
Suggest move "AK-47 The Grim Reaper, Frank Iannamico" from "9. Fiction... > 2. Gunsmithing (It's more of a reference book). Also this same book has a 2nd edition available here: AK-47, The Grim Reaper (AK-47 The Grim Reaper 2nd Edition, Frank Iannamico

Recomendations:

The Constitution of the United States, We the People

1776, David McCullough (Everything by McCullough really)

HELLO! Calguns very own nicoroshi has a AK gunsmithing kindle book.
Build Your Own AK (Vol. I): Headspacing & Virgin Barrel Population [Kindle Edition], Guy Montag, Nicoroshi > 2. Gunsmithing

State of Chaos (Collapse Series), Summer Lane (Saw this recommended by the Authors boyfriend, who is an Appleseed Instructor) > 9. Fiction (SHTF)

One last cool bit for now:
Check out LibraryThing! It's a pretty awesome personal cataloging site... actually now that I think about it, we should start a CGN group on there. :D

From the site's about page:

Quote:

About LibraryThing
LibraryThing is an online service to help people catalog their books easily. You can access your catalog from anywhere—even on your mobile phone. Because everyone catalogs together, LibraryThing also connects people with the same books, comes up with suggestions for what to read next, and so forth.
Quote:

What does it cost?
A free account allows you to catalog up to 200 books. A paid account allows you to catalog any number of books. Paid personal accounts cost $10 for a year or $25 for a lifetime. (See here for organizational accounts.) I conservatively predict the revenue will enable me to recline all day on an enormous pile of gold.

ja308 05-17-2014 4:49 PM

" Bullies" written by talk show host and genius Ben Shapiro has information contained that will make understanding how bullies in govt and their symbiotic media allies operate !

Shapiro has a book full of truths, myths and general information .

Local Los Angeles radio features Ben Shapiro daily 6-9 am on Kiev 870 . I believe the show called " the answer" is also on I heart radio .

Warning if you were unable to read Molon Labe or any of the other modern books on liberty or the gun culture. This book is probably not for you !

ja308 06-20-2014 5:11 PM

Although not exactly related to issues of RKBA. The book Columbine explores the motives of these 2 murderous psychos .

Author Dave Cullen got lots easy stuff ( Brady Bill ) almost entirely wrong, he further left a negative impression of the NRA and the GOP, both who realise that gun restrictions do not prevent murder !

The biggest omission in my opinion was the speech before congress by Darrel Scott father of Rachel Scott who was brutally murdered April 20 1999 .
http://urbanlegends.about.com/librar...rrellscott.htm

I would suggest literate Calgunners save your time and money by skipping" Columbine "

BigJ 06-20-2014 5:17 PM

Great idea!

"The Mi Garand Rifle" by Bruce Canfield is an absolute must add to the history section. It has very quickly and justifiably established itself as the resource for everything Garand.

ja308 07-04-2014 10:34 AM

Kurt Schlichter
Peoples Republic is a book about the spilt that occurs when FREE STATES have had enough of the socialist horror show.

I'll add in a very loud & vehement SECOND to this.

Kurt is one of my all-time favorite current pundits / patriots.

I haven't yet read his books, but really want to.

For my contribution, I'll add
Unintended Consequences
by John Ross.

I won't post a link since I'm not 100% sure it's OK, but the book has sadly been out of print for a long time & hard copies are hard to find.

It is very easy to find PDF copies of it online - just search the title + author.

U.C. should be the top of the list, IMO.....
