Temecula Rod Run/March 8 & 9, 2013

The Temecula Rod Run will occur on Friday March 8 and Saturday March 9, 2013.

It will be held, as always, in the Old Town area of Temecula. This event draws people not only from California, but from out of state also and they usually have 60,000 visitors attend during this period. This will be our third time having a booth there and we have been the only booth of its kind.

Friday night, the night of the actual Rod Run, the cars cruise down Old Town Front Street. The hours of the event then are from 5pm to 8pm. We will need to arrive at ***3pm*** to set up. No vehicles except show vehicles permitted from 4pm on.

Saturday's show runs from 8am to 4pm. The vehicles are parked on the various streets and parking lots for viewing. There are also food and event related booths present. We will need to be there at ***6am*** to set up. Again, no vehicles after 7am.

We will need 5 volunteers to work each day in addition to me as the coordinator. Two of us will walk the crowd, passing out info about Calguns, four will stay at the booth and we will switch off. Tho there will be numerous food booths and restaurants, you are free to bring your own food and drink. Also bring chairs if you wish, as none are furnished.

If you work Friday, please dress warmly as it will get cold at night.

Anyone who wishes to bring any rifles (no handguns please, tho AR/AK style pistols are Ok.) for display, will have to disable the weapon so it cannot fire (remove the bolt or other necessary parts) and zip tie it. This is a requirement of the Riverside Sheriffs Department. We work with the Riverside Sheriff's Dept. on this event and we have never had a problem.

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN ARRIVAL TIMES FOR EACH DAY. WE NEED TO BE SET BY 4PM ON FRIDAY AND 7AM ON SATURDAY. MEA CULPA

Friday, March 8, 2013, 4pm to 8pm:

1. Eat Dirt
2. chknlyps2
3. DavidR310/XXL shirt SHIFT FILLED
4.jhoveln/3XL
5. mrlonewolf

Saturday, March 9, 2013, 7am to 4pm

1 Eat Dirt
2. chknlyps2
3. tunafish SHIFT FILLED
4.Nate67/L
5.Novaholic/XXL shirt

We will wear the green polo shirt that was worn at the last Rod Run. If you do not have a green polo shirt from working this event or Raahauge's before, please advise us what size you wear when you sign up for whatever day you wish to work. Thank you.

ETA: The location of our booth has changed. We will now be on the S/W corner of 2nd Street and Old Town Front Street. This will be on the sidewalk in front of the Baileys Restaurant/Bar entrance area.

Also, I was informed today (Thursday) when I checked in, this will be the LAST TEMECULA ROD RUN. The owner of the event is moving out of state and the foundation that is owned by him is being shut down. For any of you who thought of attending this event to see the fantastic vehicles that will be there and visit our booth, this is your last chance to do so. It is unknown if the city will ever hold a similar event in the future.

Since I'll be there anyway (I've registered my car) I might as well swing by and pull double duty.

Thanks Nate. What day are you talking about; Friday or Sat. Also, what size shirt do you wear. We will be furnishing a green polo shirt to everyone working the event.

Thanks for your offer repo4sale; it is appreciated, but we have a full shift. I was just waiting for Nate67 to reply as to which day and what size shirt and he has done so. Also, I didn't put his name down, but mrlonewolf, our regional C3 leader, will be there both days. He is in charge of bringing the kit to set up our booth. Any more people and the booth area will be too crowded.:)

If you come to the show on either day, please stop by and introduce yourself as it is always a nice thing to be able to put a face to a user name.:)

Vomtaylor 03-06-2013 7:42 AM

I can fill in Friday Night if someone backs out........ Let me know, Im a local :43:

chknlyps2 03-07-2013 10:57 AM

Weather does not sound great for a car show or a booth on Friday. Below is from NOAA for Temecula.

Quote:

Friday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 47. Southeast wind 5 to 15 mph becoming southwest in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Friday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 55. South wind around 5 mph becoming west in the morning.

retired 03-07-2013 11:31 AM

Vomtaylor, thanks for the offer. Everything looks good so far, but I will contact you if needed.

chknlyps2, now I know you are a half empty glass type of guy.:p:43: Don't jinx us.;) It drizzled off and on when I was checking in this morning at the hotel they use for check in purposes. When I drove thru Old Town to check out the new booth location, it was dry. I was told by the event people that it won't rain on the event as they won't let it.:D I hope someone is listening.

If anyone has one of those propane heating devices that you sometimes see when going to your kids sporting events, feel free to bring it. It should add some warmth for us in the booth.

Pics anyone? Ones with some of them fancy horseless carriages would be nice.

Novaholic 03-10-2013 11:37 AM

I had a blast yesterday.. I still can't believe the amount of people we made contact with, it put in to perspective why its so important we continue with educating the public.

Bill had the quote of the day!! I'm still laughing!!

By the way I was truly surprised by all the interest with my AR-15,, It was an honor to have it reside with Ron's M-1 Garand and M-1 Carbine!!

Again a true pleasure doing the volunteer thing with other CALGUN members!!

Get involved, stay involved, expect great results!
