Anybody a 19D?

Yesterday I enlisted in the army as a 19D, I wanted infantry but they didn't have it and the guy at meps said this is almost the same. Anyways how do you like being a 19D? Any advice?

Why...

In the Navy, the saying was "Choose your rate, choose your fate". NEVER trust what a Recruiter or a Guy at MEPS. Do your research and choose what you want to do for the next 4 years.

Cav Scout sounds ok but you need to know what it entails.

Good luck and thank you for your future service.

Better prepare yourself now for the endless ridicule you will be subjected to from all the 11 Series Soldiers.

AAHHHHHH, the old "guy at MEPS said" story. There are many people in the Army who have a story about a mysterious man at MEPS that promised the world and didn't deliver. 19D is close to Infantry but still isn't infantry. Its like Cops and security guards. Close but not the same. Our 19D in Ramadi in 2006 did similar to us job wise but still wasnt Infantry.

Honestly, why would you sign your life away to the military without knowing what your truly doing? On the plus side congrats with joining, you took the first step and im sure youll be happy with what you have. The Army is a great starting point and im sure 19D wont let you down. You still get to do highspeed stuff.

19d is almost like infantry. Lol!! If your not infantry you ain't shi-! You'll hear that a lot at Benning. At least you get to where spurs and a Stetson.

I'm an active duty 19D. Well, it's a lot like the Infantry depending on what type of unit you're in. I'm in a light unit, so we play Infantry all day. I have 11B's in my platoon, we also have a whole Infantry company in our squadron. That being said, I don't know anything about the heavy world. We get guys all the time coming from heavy units and they are pretty lost in sauce when it comes to the dismounted side of things, they also lack in PT. So hope you get in a light unit! We dismount everything, walk everywhere, fly around in UH-60's. Some days are pretty uneventful though, like any unit. You're going to have some fun days and some horrible days, just don't be a little girl about it. Listen to your leaders and learn as much as you can. And like those above me said, no matter how high speed you are, the Infantry will still hate on you!

Just have fun and dont take **** talk too seriously.

However, be prepared for some serious **** storms

2 months after you get done with mos school you'll be posting a thread how your recruiter ****ed you and you need a way out.

What is your end goal? Lifer? Then do whatever you want. Do 4-6-8 years and then ETS? The. Find a job you can transfer and train for the civilian job equivalent, like nurse.

If you want to be a door kicker ask for an Option 40 contract and be Ranger.

If you go to combat you want to be with the best and trained the best. Not with the lazy, tennis shoe, no shave profile homie.

I remember an old saying, "Scouts can grunt, but grunts can't Scout"
Sappers lead the way!

If you end up disliking 19D or want to catch a break you can always go to the PX and pick a new unit's insignia for your Velcro.

Thats not authorized. Switching patches is only authorized for shamming, missions, and acquiring stuff.
