Need help. Scope mount selection

So I am picking up my tikka t3x tac a1 in 6.5 tomorrow which I am pairing with a new bushnell ers 3.5-21 which is shipping today. I am looking to purchase my scope mount today but I cant decide on whether to get the arc m-10 qd-l mount with a 20 moa or 30 moa. The scope has 29 (29.6 exactly) mils of adjustment. I know either mount will be fine but I am wondering if the 30 moa one is not necessary. The mounts are the same price. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

I would certainly get a 20MOA mount at minimum. I have a 6.5 Creedmoor 24" barrel and to get me to 1 mile I needed about 25-26 mils of elevation and my scope just didn't have it, I was about 6-7 mils off even with a 20MOA base. Keep in mind it was a Kahles K624i which is no slouch as far as scopes go... it has 25.5 mils of total travel. Remember the total travel includes the "up" windage which most will ever use. I would be hard pressed to think you couldn't get a 30MOA base and still have a 100 yard zero. I just upgraded from a 20 to a 40MOA base to try and get a mile with no or minimal holdover. Even if you don't plan on shooting that far, there is no reason to waste the elevation travel on something you won't use. Get a mount that allows a 100 yard zero, but makes use of all the travel your scope can offer.

For this scope, a 20 MOA base would be sufficient.

I think 20 is plenty, but why do you plan to use a QD mount? Consistency is key in long range shooting. I don't trust that any QD mount will return to zero well enough.

I just went with Burris XTR signature rings with 30moa inserts for now, and no problem getting 100 yard zero with having mils to spare. Maybe down the line ill get a sphur mount or something. As of now Im happy with these rings.

Does anyone use a 1 piece picatinny rings with 20 MOA like this one:

Mounted on top of a 20 MOA base? Is that goofy or doable, provided the scope will space properly?

Prove that theory. Not true. Familiar with Desert Tech? I remove barrels, scopes etc and have never had an issue returning to zero...

I only use 1 piece mounts on my Tacticool rigs. I use a 20 MOA at minimum. On my long range stuff I use a 40 MOA mount. For what you have , why limit how far you can dial out before using the scopes hash marks.

My Remmy 700 varmint in 300 WSM has a 20 MOA scope base. I was thinking of getting a 1 piece rings setup with 20 MOA and a 34mm tube scope in the 5x25 power range . The scope will mainly reside on top of a AR with bolt action conversion, but will be used on the 300 WSM when I get the chance to shoot over 1 mile. That will give me 40 MOA.

You do you. QD offers me no benefit, and introduces a variable that I prefer to avoid.

Not sure what you do you. Yes, you can use QD and have no issues with a return to zero. It's like anything, torque it to the same specs you will be fine...

Ever heard of LaRue?

Even know what Desert Tech is?

Great, then why question the reliability?

So in regards to my prior mention of upgrading from a 20MOA to a 40MOA mount, I did just that and ended up with the American Defense mount. Finally got a chance to shoot it and with my Kahles 624i. That scope has 26 mils of elevation travel, and with a 100 yard zero I was able to dial 23.75 mils before having to hold over. I was able to ring steel at 2000 yards with a 140g bullet, maxed out elevation, and about 7-8 mil holdover depending on head wind. I would say 40 MOA is perfect of you plan on taking your creedmoor to it's max like I did, otherwise you will be happy with 20 MOA for inside of 1 mile.

I have the exact mount on 2 of my AR's in 30mm tubes. However, they're a bit on the heavy side and considered a high mount which may not be suitable for bolt gun unless you plan on using additional cheek weld. On top of a 20 MOA base would definitely be too high. My LMT has a 3-9x with this particular mount and it is quite top heavy.
