17 year's

Today 4/25 marks 17 years since my friend, coworker, and just plain one of the best cops I have ever known was killed in the line of duty along side U.S.101. Not a day goes by that Dave is not in my thoughts. I am happy to have know him, worked with him and to have had him as my friend.

I am bitter that his admitted murderer has not gone to trial, despite admitting to the shooting, he sits at a state mental hospital. Every time they try to bring him to trial he refuses his meds and is judged incompetent, dragging out what degree of closure there is left for the family. I know that there is no true justice that the court can deliver for the loss that so many suffered through that day, but there can be closure to a long journey that no one wanted to take. I pray that one day it may happen.

Sorry for the rant, I needed to get that out and figured most would understand.

RIP, I believe we all have friends we think of. If he is in your thoughts he is lucky to have you as a friend.

P5, I read the info that LtJim linked and your friend sounds like he was an overall great guy. My your friend RIP, and know that even after all these years that he is not and will not be forgotten. Also, be assured that the murderer will eventually be seen as a manipulator and will be dealt with accordingly. Prayers for you, and your friends family.

Props to Caltrans for doing something great.

Just wanted to give a shout out to Caltrans! I noticed my fathers freeway sign was missing the other day and learned it had been knocked down by a vehicle. I just notified them of this the other day. I received a message from them saying they sent a crew out today because they wanted to put it up before the anniversary of his death tomorrow.

I didn't ask them to rush or do my family any favors. I just simply advised them that it was down and was hoping they could put it back up in the near future. They did it simply out of respect and said "god bless". As hard as it is every year, simple gestures and acts of kindness don't go unnoticed.

It's a nice feeling knowing that people that didn't even know my father care so much. It means a lot. Thank you Caltrans District 4 crew!

Sorry for your loss. May he rest in piece.
Growing up in San Bruno, and frequently driving past his memorial sign on HW101 in Millbrae, I always thought of him and that sign inspired me to join LE. I never even met him but always heard great things about him from others around the Peninsula.
