Bay Area FFL Recommendations

Can anyone recommend an FFL around the Bay Area? I'm willing to travel a bit for a good one. Prefferably one that is ok with receiving an internet purchase, and is ok with dealing with newbies. This will be my first go round with needing an FFL. Thanks in advance

Brian

Metal dog in San Jose

I had a good experience with Peninsula Guns in San Bruno. I bought a handgun off GunBroker no problem, fee is $75 for handgun, $100 for long gun.

Nshaver127 02-09-2013 10:41 AM

$75? Sheesh. Kevin Smith in Martinez charges $35(that includes dros)

Psyco66 02-09-2013 12:30 PM

Brentwood armory has been cool to me.

Do you happen to have his info?

thelucky13 02-09-2013 12:58 PM

Oh and thanks for the other suggestions also.

Jackson arms

http://www.jacksonarms.com/

I've used jackson arms for several PPT transfers, they are friendly and a pleasure to do business with.

thelucky13 02-09-2013 7:44 PM

I went to Jackson today actually. They didn't seem to be too interested in dealing with it. Its not a PPT that I'm doing though, just trying to have a stripped lower shipped to an FFL. Thanks though:D

Try Toby at http://www.tobystactical.com/ I'm pretty sure he charges $40, and is cool with internet and out of state sellers.

BigCumfy 02-10-2013 6:33 AM

+1 for Kevin smith. Really good guy. Responds to emails pretty quick.

Yes. Just used him a month or so ago for an internet purchase. I recommend him, and he's not too far from Antioch.

thelucky13 02-11-2013 5:56 PM

Thanks for recommending him also. I got in touch with Kevin and he's got me all setup. Great guy and very prompt. Thanks guys

Mount Pleasant Arms, his banner can be seen at the top of the page AND he happens to be far beyond exceptional

2nd on Metal Dog San Jose. I just did the same with 2 stripped lowers coming from out of state. They were pretty cool about it, just give them a call first.

Yeah Kevin is a great guy, and does a lot of internet related work. I believe his fee is at 50 now, give him a call or email--he responds quick and well with both.

Why not give Templar Sport Los Gatos a try? Did PPT my transfer (I'm the buyer) there last month. Very professional staff.

It's totally out of the way for me, but I'd return for more business there.

Like many have said on here ... Kevin Smith who is fairly local to you. However, if you need a single shot conversion done too ... then Peter at MPArms is the man

Tpatrior03 02-20-2013 9:11 AM

Tracy rifle and gun shop #1 imo

BigPimping 02-24-2013 9:40 AM

Kevin Smith or I also like City Arms.....they have received a few guns for me. Russians are cool....

Fairfield Pawn is awesome. DROS+ $10. Good people, too.

I just completed a FFL transfer for a lower at San Jose Gun Trader. Good People. Good service.

thelucky13 03-01-2013 6:38 AM

I used Kevin Smith and am very pleased with his services

Yeah, the Russians are GTG in Pleasant Hill...If you are in the 'yach that would be a good call.

DO NOT go to Canyon. They are THE WORST.

BigPimping 03-05-2013 2:39 PM

Canyon Sports is the pit of hell. rude employees and astronomical pricing.

twolane 03-07-2013 9:44 AM

Any recommendations for Sac?

talisman7 03-16-2013 8:42 PM

What's email for Kevin Smith?

sigma6 03-16-2013 9:32 PM

I had my lower sent to metaldog from rainier arms without any problems. My next lower is going to san jose gun trader though since its cheaper.

Yohl 03-18-2013 3:48 PM

J&R gun supply in Livermore, or my fave, City Arms in Pacifica.

+1 for Peter at Mount Pleasant Arms.
He was able to get firearms for me that I had given up on owning in CA.
And not common stuff like Gen 4 Glocks but arranging for firearms to be shipped to a 3rd party in a free state to be neutered and then shipped into CA.

Like this Rock River LAR-PDS pistol. Ha! Diane Feinstein can't sleep at night because this gun is in CA.

Hallucinosis 03-19-2013 3:22 PM

Awesome thread. I've called Kevin Smith once and he was friendly. I ended up purchasing the gun at City Arms (Pleasant Hill) instead as they had what I wanted in stock. I think City Arms charges $75 for transfers and Kevin Smith charges $50.

high_revs 03-19-2013 3:36 PM

Roger's relics. She just won't do are pistols though (or ak pistols)

Hate to admit it but those Russians are darn funny.... :D

CapS 03-19-2013 10:06 PM

What about Bay Area FFLs who'll do SSEs?
(I'm in the West Bay, but anyone in the bay area would be fine.)

Cap

thelucky13 03-20-2013 5:27 AM

Sorry if this is a newbie question, but what's an SSE? And a side note cap, which coastal village do you live? I grew up in pacifica, and still work near there

Roger's Relics is the Bay Area's best kept secret.
Nice older couple, they are polite and really helpful.
Their dogs are unique, can't remember the breed.
I have done several Private transfers there and have items shipped there as well.

No love for U.S. Firearms Co? http://www.usfirearmsco.com

They are small, but high quality selection and professional staff. They're my go to guys because I feel they deserve my business. As of late people have been cleaning them out though. Which is good, but there's nothing much in stock last I checked. (Weeks ago) I'd rate them along side with Templar in LG.

Update 11/16/13:

U.S. Firearms Co has massively improved their high quality selection and is now an HSGI dealer.

-1 to Templar in LG. They had me put my name and number down on a waiting list for a Glock and told me they'd give me a call in some odd weeks. It has been close to a year and I have never heard back from them. What, did they just trash the list? U.S. Firearms Co got my money instead.

+1 For MP Arms. Peter is a great guy and always helpful to all my questions. I had a lot of questions too.
