Have a Garand day!!!! :D

xrMike 12-31-2012 5:24 PM

Nice, please post pics when you get 'em. I love seeing new Garand pics. I've also heard/read the same thing about the HRAs coming out of CMP.

Exodus343 12-31-2012 6:04 PM

I need to join me a club and buy a garand!

pro-nra 12-31-2012 6:15 PM

Might as well join the GCA since you are/will be buying an M1.

gotshotgun? 12-31-2012 8:49 PM

Hey congrats on the order. I did the same thing and ordered 2 HRAs last Friday. I hope the process our orders before any new year price increases. Keep us updated on the shipment progress and post pics when they arrive.

gotshotgun? 12-31-2012 11:23 PM

Anyone, for $25. Go to their website and sign up now! They mail quarterly magazines that are quite nice.

sweet!
I read CMP's other requirement, something about a firearm safety certificate? anyone know what a 19 year old can do to get one? lol

Attend an Appleseed event. I'm sure more members will chime in.

gotshotgun? 01-01-2013 6:30 AM

I believe your California HSC card will work for the safety requirement! So if you purchased a handgun in this state then you already have the req met!

wellfedirishman 01-01-2013 6:51 AM

The HRA Garands for $625 are very nice. Another really good CMP deal is the Kimber 82G single-shot 22lr target guns, sold as 'rusty' but mine was perfect.

GrizzlyGuy 01-01-2013 6:55 AM

Congratulations! Did you order the HRA Service Grade or the HRA Service Grade Special with new wood? I was thinking about doing the same thing, one for my wife and one for me, but haven't decided which way to go (maybe one of each?).

zealot9802 01-01-2013 6:57 AM

Quick question. If i have my 03 FFL do I still need to be part of a CMP affiliated association or is that only good for marksmanship/firearm related program?

wellfedirishman 01-01-2013 7:07 AM

You still need to be a member of a 'CMP affiliated association'. The CRPA is an affiliated association here in CA.

gotshotgun? 01-01-2013 7:44 AM

The 03FFL covers the safety cert needed. But yes you'll still need a club membership. GCA is good to go.

DrewN 01-01-2013 8:04 AM

So CRPA and an HSC means good to go? I thought (not sure why) that you had to have a certain amount of competition appearances in official matches.

I've heard that they do accept an HSC or a FFL, but per their own eligibility requirements it seems like they really shouldn't:

Quote:

Firearms Owner Identification Cards that included live fire training. - FFL or C&R license
For competition appearances you'd only need one:

Quote:

Participation in a rifle, pistol, air gun or shotgun competition (provide copy of results bulletin)

It's kind of a poorly written page. For one thing there are two items on some lines that should be split up. Many of the items don't require live fire.

But yes, they accept a HSC. Lots of people here on the boards have done that. For the 19 year old - you can actually get a HSC even though you can't buy a handgun at the dealer, but they may tell you 'no' if they're running low on cards since they know you're not buying anything.

It's hardly any work at all for an honest to god weapon of war in .30 caliber shipped to your door for $650. Go get your HSC card if you don't have one, join the RWVA online, print out the paperwork, make a few copies, run to a notary and you're done. I did the required paperwork and went to the notary in about 1 hour total time. I did join the RWVA a couple months ago in anticipation of making the order, but there's not really much to it. $650 for a Garand is a hell of a deal considering the current market.

Ok first step for me is joining the GCA and then getting a HSC
and that's it?
:D

Ban?

Seriously, if you can't see the amazing deal here just wait 5-10 years when they are gone and Garands are selling for $1500+ in your LGS. They are amazingly fun guns to shoot and are still very good at doing what they were designed to do back in the 30's.

That is it. Send in the 4 page purchase order form with copies of your id and the above items. Have 1 page of the form notarized (this only has to be done on your first order), and give them either a check or credit card number and wait for a Garand to arrive at your door shipped via next day air FedEx. Its really fun!

Exodus343 01-01-2013 12:51 PM

Wow that sounds very easy!
Ok well I gotta go get my HSC and join the GCA now haha
All can be done by next week :)
Now where do I get them notarized?

gotshotgun? 01-01-2013 12:57 PM

Any bank or UPS store/ Fedex Kinkos store will do it for $10. So you can get it notarized right before you mail it off from them.

sd_shooter 01-01-2013 1:10 PM

The cmp was indeed set up by the gov:
Quote:

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is a U.S. government-chartered program that promotes firearms safety training and rifle practice for all qualified U.S. citizens with special emphasis on youth.

(you rock, dad.)

P.S. thank you CMP.

Can first time buyers send in a order for more than 1 Garand?

gotshotgun? 01-01-2013 5:21 PM

Yep. You can order 12 per year. You can order all 12 in one shot if you want.

zealot9802 01-02-2013 6:24 AM

For those who have ordered. Did you just sent regular mail or priority/fedex/ups etc?

Eljay 01-02-2013 6:44 AM

I like sending priority just to have the delivery notification.

13withinfinity 01-02-2013 7:29 AM

I think I am gonna join you today and pick up one of those serivce grades just in case. American history and all :D That and I dont think Id feel as guilty shooting one that isnt a family heirloom lol

RAMCHARGER 01-02-2013 7:53 AM

I'm getting my requirements done this month and ordering .308 Garand (I got a bucket of .308/7.62 and my .308 Saiga is lonely) in February when my tax return comes in.

Exodus343 01-02-2013 8:24 AM

Same here! Joined the GCA yesterday and I'm going to get my HSC and then I'm
Good to go!
