My First gun! SIG 2022 & targets

Hello my fellow Calgunners!

Snapshot here, I just wanted to share my first gun with you guys. The Sig sp2022 DA/SA 9mm pistol, this is the model made in Exeter, NH. I've had it for almost 2 months now and put about 500 rounds through it so far. Before my final choice I posted a thread back in June called "Deciding on my first handgun: research and conclusion" where I have decided to go with the SP2022 and I have been very happy with it so far. So without further ado, lets see some pics! :cheers2:

After that my next purchase was a good range bag! I decided to pick up a MidwayUSA Compact Competition because it was on sale for 25 bucks and it had all the features in a bag that I'm was looking for.

Thank you for your support and feedback Calguns! :)

My clean & lube session after the first 200 factory rounds. I removed all the stock product and applied some good ol' Froglube CLP, I love this stuff!

Target Groupings:

I am still a noob when it comes to my groupings, but safety is my #1 priority when at the range and home defense practices. I try and get out to the range (Field Time or OnTarget, OC) about once a week or by minimum twice a month. More trigger time the better!

Nice! I really like my 2022 (.40) and it is really accurate. All my friends are jealous.

Your groups will get even better with time and practice. Also might want to try some 3" shoot 'n see (dots or 16 to a page). Aim small, miss small.

Okay, thanks for the tip. I have a few of the 5" Shoot N C adhesive targets that I haven't used yet, maybe I can just cut them down to 3" in size. ;)

Also, does anyone know what sight picture by default the 2022 is set at? (See picture below for reference to my question)

Glock619 08-24-2013 10:27 PM

Not sure on sight picture, I want to go with image two. LOL, well at least how I shoot mine...

I've put just over 800 rounds through my 2022 (.40). No glitches at all, well one magazine... while dropping mags to reload. One mag's base plate came undone. Nothing with the gun itself though.

Nice SIG!

snapshot7 08-28-2013 12:58 AM

Thanks guys :D

On another sweet note, I just bought my first rifle today! A Marlin XT-22 Magnum bolt action rifle. Now to count the days.. 10.. 9.. 8....:toetap05:

Okay cool, thanks for confirming that M1Kev :)

Update:

Went to the range today to try out these new targets and now knowing what sight config I actually have. One target with DA and the other SA, both at 7 yards, shots fired once every 3 sec.

 Very nice! Glad you're liking the Sig so far. Mine had a few problems from the factory (clip for the takedown pin wasn't retaining the pin, sights were WAY off). But I just love the feel of the gun in my hands and the way it handles. The issues I have are nothing a little tweaking can't fix, along with some new sights that I intended to buy anyway.

Great shooting, sir! Keep it up and enjoy your toy :)

Moemoe1 08-29-2013 11:32 PM

Firerescuebatt07 10-20-2013 9:24 AM

great pics brother. I am killing myself right now deciding on my first Sig purchase. P226 Navy in 9, P229R in 40 and a SP2022 in 40.... I WANT THEM ALL but can only buy one... lol

MrExel17 10-21-2013 6:57 AM

How are the practice sessions going?

Pally 12-05-2013 4:52 AM

I, too, love my PSig 2022 (9MM). It is so accurate! :D I still can't believe what a bargain this gun was! The ergonomics for me are perfect.

krickett 12-15-2013 2:53 PM

Nice! I had major issues with my SP2022, but it worked itself out after some ample lubrication and roughly 150 rounds.

What rounds are you using for home defense (in the pic with the hollow points with inserts)?

Excellent! Not much time behind the trigger this month due to the busy holidays, but my groupings are much more consistent and also at a faster fire rate.

Same here actually, I was having failure to go into battery for the first 150 rounds too. Then after a nice clean and re-lube using Froglube CLP, my Sig has been running flawlessly 900+ rounds later. :)

I am currently using Hornady 9mm Luger +P 135gr FlexLock® Critical DUTY for home defense ammo. (link)

marklewiswalker 12-31-2013 10:32 AM

I also purchased a SP2022 in 9mm and love it still very much. Glad to see them getting more recognition. Happy shooting.

Awesome customizations! But, let's see that chrome hammer too! Did you mean to leave the magazine release black too?

Garyson1311 12-31-2013 1:44 PM

Congrats and nice gun! I love my Sp2022 9mm. I have had no problems with it and I find it to be very accurate. In my opinion, its one of the most underrated firearms out there. Enjoy!

funnybookz 12-31-2013 4:08 PM

Excuse me while I wipe the drool away. Nice first handgun! Still deciding on my first hg and this is on the list!

Lebaneseblonde 12-31-2013 10:40 PM

Love mine. 500 rnds through it but up it's still a bit stiff.
But it's still impressive

are you bragging or complaining? :D

despite my loyalty to the early w german P series Sigs, the Pro series is a lot of gun for the money imho.

nestle19 01-01-2014 1:11 PM

My first ever Gun as well. :)

BeRightBack 01-01-2014 1:35 PM

I love how we're all here because of the obvious reputation of Sig, wanted a Sig, but not at Sig prices. In the end, got more gun than we'd hoped for. WIN!

JanG 02-05-2014 12:52 PM

Looking good. Now you gotta take her out for sme action shots.

Niice shooting, thanks for sharing.

ShooterStymie 05-07-2014 10:26 AM

Great choice for a first gun, exact same one I selected about 8 years ago! The Sig Pros are considerably more affordable these days, but they still handle great and have excellent triggers. In fact, the double action trigger on the SP2022 is better than any P226 or P229 that I have.

Have fun!

Hylas 05-08-2014 4:54 PM

my first gun was a Sig Pro 2009 i got 10 years ago, sold it about a year ago and regretted it so i picked up a Sig2022 9mm couple months back for $439 with Holster/Sig Laser included, so happy i did, Sig Quality for half the price

rman 05-08-2014 8:01 PM

man i need another one. sold mine and miss it.
