Nice scout Jaiofspam! If you don't mind, what is the mount and scope you have on there? And how is it holding up for you? Thanks.

Beautiful Mosins guys... Will need to take pics of mine soon.

thanks, its a b-square mount i got from midway... i purchased it before i found out about darrels scout mounts (which are highly recommended) but its holding up very well with the assistance of blue loctite. ive shot about 100rds with it on and it hasnt worked loose contrary to some negative reviews received :)

as for the scope its a ncstar 2-7x32 LER... for something that cost $35 its holding up very very very well to the recoil of the mosin while still holding zero :D

pklin1297 01-01-2008 1:52 PM

Awesome, thanks Jaiofspam! I have read some negative reviews regarding the side-mounted brass screws configuration of Darrel's scount mounts so I was thinking about giving S&K and/or B-Square mounts a try...

Thanks again for the review.

ive heard many good things about the s&k mount also...
you could always give the cheapy ncstar mounts found all over the web a try for about $10... my buddy uses this config and its holding up fine. my only gripe with the ncstar mount is that the hex screws strip easily :chris:

This is in great shape and the bore is perfect, since these didn't see much use. Great rifle.

What's the turn down handle for? Were you going to put a receiver mounted scope on or something? And what mount is that? Looks like the $35 one i got from ebay that bounced all over the place. I need a darrell's or the sk mount.

the turned down bolt and pull ring knob is for fun... the new bolt handle helps a ton in cycling the action and the pull ring helps in engaging the "safety" or dealing with misfires :) i never intended to receiver mount a scope... the project in mind was always a scout setup

as for the mount... nope its not an ncstar, its a b-square mount i got from midway and so far its rock solid

How did you get your wood to look like that? refinished it or are the laminated? And what did you use and your method for using it?

pklin1297 01-03-2008 7:23 PM

The middle M44 and the bottom M91/30 are laminated stocked, the top M38 is hard wood.

Not much you can do to refinish a laminated stock other than clean off cosmoline and shellac (if used) then either reapply shellac or oil. The hard wood is easier to sand down, stain and oil because you don't have epoxy to deal with.

Also have a bastardization of a 91/30 cut down to carbine length (i didn't do it, bought it as a parts gun for next to nothing.... the receiver is hex and 1937 production... such a waste :( )

Beautiful rifles everyone. When I get home ill post pics of two of mine.

Deuce 03-15-2008 1:35 PM

My M-44 looks the same with all matching Serial Numbers and BTW, I think there is nothing ugly about these guns. I am fortunate that mine is solid wood as well.
