$400 for a nagant... you have got to be kidding me

It sickens me at the amount of money people are charging for a Nagant.... Hello people these will be back at big 5 for 89.99 just give it some time.... It's NOT a $400 rifle... no way

backstrap 03-29-2013 11:10 AM

C&R is gonna drop big when registration comes.

Anschiss 03-29-2013 11:17 AM

Well Eddie it depends on what is being sold. There are quite a few special Mosins worth $400 namely for collector value. Big 5 Mosins vary in quality and the ones I've seen do not have matching part numbers.

C&Rtrader 03-29-2013 11:19 AM

I have paid over $400 for a mosin... and felt I got a good deal :)

I am currently selling a different mosin for $450. Then again it is a Sako M39.

DennisCA 03-29-2013 11:22 AM

Agree - If it's a reg 91-30, however isn't that the price a 91-30 sniper?

af240z 03-29-2013 11:39 AM

I paid $600 for my molot pu sniper. $325 for a finn m39.

SKSer45 03-29-2013 11:54 AM

awww did the Fugly rifles go up in price again? booo hooo. But then again $400 for a "american" moosin nagant isn't a bad deal either ;)

cclgeo 03-29-2013 11:59 AM

I have picked up my M44 (perfect condition all matching), an good condition all matching hex mosin, and a good condition all matching non-hex mosin at big 5 for under a $100 each. They can be found there.

FLZ_Boy 03-29-2013 12:04 PM

Eventually, the price of the Mosin will have to creep up due to inflation and/or supply cjain disruptions.

Really... which Big 5 currently has those in stock at those prices? Is it the one in "Hill Valley?" :)

CSACANNONEER 03-29-2013 12:09 PM

I've got an 1887 Swedish NAGANT revolver that's worth more than $400 to me. Oh, you're talking about Mosin-Nagant rifles. why didn't you say so in the title? While I personally don't have any use for them and have sold the 4 I use to own, some arre worth a hell of a lot more than that. Think about it, some Ford Mustangs are worth about $300 in scrap value while some are hitting the 6 figure mark at high end auctions.

You'd have to PAY ME to haul off a Mustang II..

Mosins are good rifles, Some are worth 400 or more, But not your big 5 91-30 Special.

Guns are all worth what someone will pay for them.

If it's a sniper model that would actually be a pretty decent price.

I seriously doubt they'll be $89.99 ever. Pre-panic prices at Big 5 was $179 reg and $129 on sale. I should know I bought one right before the panic at sale price.

I also doubt long gun registration will affect sales of mosins. Granted their may be a few people who wont buy a mosin after 1/1/2014 to keep "off the radar" but I would bet anything that they are the very very small minority. If someone wants a mosin theyll buy a mosin. Chances are if youre buying a mosin you have a handgun that is registered so what does it matter???

They were at the sports arena and el cajon Big 5's in San Diego area. They have been out for awhile (4 months), but I think they might get some more mosins in the near future. If you are cool to the employees, they will let you check out out a few and pick the one you like. Also they sometimes get hex mosins in.

I don't think you will ever see sub $100 Mosin Nagant rifles ever again. In fact the minimum price will continue to rise as the supply declines.

I know a few folks who are in the wholesale arms supply biz. Everything is drying up.

So buy now or cry tomorrow!!!

KShack 03-29-2013 2:04 PM

I suppose its time to sell my mosin if that's the going rate for an everyday m91! Anyone know how much the m44 carbines are going for these days? Ive got one in the safe that I purchased for $80 a while back

Millions more are just waiting to be imported.

superbarnie 03-29-2013 2:17 PM

If Mosin's ever get under $100 then I'll be sure to buy a few. ATM, i can't justify buying anything at all.

TrexTracker 03-29-2013 4:19 PM

I have a clean forced-matched Hex M91/30 from Big 5. Although the numbers don't match originally, the parts are in excellent condition and function superbly. I'm amazed each time I have it in my hands. It's not a sniper.

I'm asking $550. Do you hate me now? :43:

Yup....but at what price... There are also thousands of G-43's and other C&R's in The Ukraine "waiting to be imported"..... but due to the asking price will never be imported into the US.

C&R prices rarely if ever go down.

So if you snooze you will loose!!!

Syntax Error 03-29-2013 8:53 PM

$400 for the right Mosin-Nagant M91 in the right condition can be well worth it. It's all relative.

Now now, don't be too optimistic.

Rickrock1 03-29-2013 9:12 PM

We just got spoiled with prices at $89.00 to $119.00 I have owned MN for more than 20 years and feel they are worth what people will and want to pay.

One can only hope for a mythical warehouse somewhere wherein there are thousands of NOS condition rifles of your choosing. ;)

HPBrowningMK3 03-29-2013 9:20 PM

Unless it's a pristine sniper MN all number matching, there is no way I'd pay that much for a MN. A person can ask $4,000 for it and it might sucker a newbie that's for sure. But it's not good business in the long run.

Well ask Marcus von W. He probably knows all the locations of Mitchell's secret warehouses full of those new K98's he puts out.:p

I flat out don't believe you if it was anytime in the last 2 years.

Bobby Ricigliano 03-29-2013 9:49 PM

$100 Mosins have gone the way of $6 boxes of brass .223 and $12 bricks of quality .22lr.

Posting yarns about that deal you scored at Big 5 back in 2003 is worthless to this discussion. Supplies have obviously dwindled to a degree. If I were in the market for a M91/30 I would be OK paying $150-$175 depending on barrel, matching #, finish etc.

QFT. I picked up an M38 for $135 +tax/dros @ Big 5 two years ago. I regretfully sold her.

Maybe you should add this in your signature so you don't have to type it everyday in every Mosin thread??

CEDaytonaRydr 03-29-2013 10:11 PM

I'd gladly pay $400 for an American Mosin Nagant, in good shape.

Original PU sniper is another $400+ gun. Some Finns are worth that much, and more...

Depends what it is.

HPBrowningMK3 03-30-2013 12:40 AM

Yes, CEDaytonaRydr, those you mentioned might be worth it, but some people are asking for that much for crappy counter-bored war time Mosins. I firmly believe in the market setting the price but those prices are just *beyond* absurd. That's a strong HELL NO.

no it wont and yes it is. mosins have been under priced a long time. i like them better than mausers .

NOTABIKER 03-30-2013 5:51 AM

i sold 2 mosins to a fellow calguner before the panic for 300 each. both 91-30s. nice but not rare. i just paid 250 for a 1931 TULA and glade to find it at that price.

Kokak 03-30-2013 7:14 AM

AIM has them in stock for 119.00 right now. I don't understand all the panic with Mosins. Yes EVERYTHING is hard to find right now. But unless you HAVE to have it right away, a little patience will save you a ton of money.

LINK to Mosins at AIM

Unfired scope-less Yugo listed for $500 won't look bad soon.

To be fair, they will start drying up. Mausers and Garands used to be $100 too.
