My C&R collection thus far... UPDATE post #1

Got into guns back in April with a home defense modern handgun

I've never cared too much for the modern stuff or AR's since everyone has an AR

After coming here, I, for some reason, gravitated to the C&R stuff. First purchase was a 1903 from the LGS. Since then, I've expanded my collection with more on the way (some Mosins and a K31)

(L-R in order that I purchased) 1908 Rock Island 1903, 1938 Tula Mosin, 1945 Mauser Czech, 1955 Chinese T53, 1942 Tula SVT-40, 1940 Mauser RC, 1956 Chinese T56, 1953 HRA M1 Garand, and a 1941 Nagant M1985 (not shown)

Now drool

UPDATE!

Here's the other half of my collection. (T-B in order of purchase) 1952 Winchester M70, Kokura Arisaka T38, 1941 VKT M39 (resto project), 1955 K31, Korean era Inland M1 Carbine, MAS 36. Not pictured is my 1940 Tula 91/30. It's not cleaned yet

UPDATE! Last 3 acquisitions. Chinese SKS with a cheese grater, unissued K31, and a Carcano Cavalry TS

VegasND 11-27-2013 6:15 PM

Nice accumulation of C&Rs. Keep it up.

Well, I have 5 Mosins and a K31 in the mail at the moment

On my long list is a Walther P38 and Luger P08 (I'll never have one of those)

My uncle is going to give me my grandpa's old Winchester Model 70 30-06 tomorrow

I really don't know what else is on my list. A MAS would be interesting. I would like an M1 Carbine. A lammy M44 would be rad and also a lammy SKS. I'll prob go to the OC Fair gun show this Sat so I might be able to put my 03 to good use (and hopefully find a few smokin' deals) :D

ZenMastaT 11-27-2013 7:21 PM

Never say never!

http://i.imgur.com/0oJQyEal.jpg

Neither of those cost me more than a grand, deals are out there! I just picked up a MAS myself today in fact, at Aegis on Burbank Blvd. I think they have another one on the rack for $250 if that isn't too far out of your way.

DirtyRussianAmmo 11-27-2013 7:30 PM

Very nice! Well done. Thanks for sharing.

bruceflinch 11-28-2013 5:57 AM

What no Enfields? Blasphemy! :D

Very nice start! You have some good looking pieces!

Armistice 11-28-2013 6:29 AM

An Enfield is on the list as well. I'm looking for the one where the barrel is flush with the wood

yatzee982 11-28-2013 10:26 AM

Good start on the collection ! !

WTB: Laminate Russian SKS - On this I prefer the darker red laminated stocks...

...?...

Don't know that one.

..:scooter:..

Deimos887 11-29-2013 2:57 AM

^ think he's implying a No1 MkIII variant... maybe?

Bainter1212 11-29-2013 4:04 AM

Nice start to your collection.

I have a feeling this is the tip of the iceberg for you if you just started. Thats a lot of rifles in a short time.

Keep posting every time you get something new. We like pics of milsurps.

mj1 11-29-2013 9:38 AM

;) Ahhhhhhhh

Surely that would round it out well.

Seems Mk3 and Mk5 have that feature

DennisCA 11-29-2013 3:41 PM

Very nice!

Deimos887 11-30-2013 3:45 PM

Yeah a Lee Enfield would round out that collection quite nicely at bare minimum imo.
No1's are iconic and beatiful.
I perfer No4's as shooters though... between peep sights & longer sight radius.
LE's in general have the perfect balance despite weight imo.
Quite underrated on this forum Ive noticed..

Queuing mj1's LE porn collection ;) :)

Armistice 11-30-2013 5:28 PM

I was looking at them at the gun show today, but none under $450. Did get something else though. Pics later

Armistice 11-30-2013 8:36 PM

I have my grandpa's Winchester M70 30-06 that I temporarily bought from my uncle. It's mine, but it's not... if that makes sense

So at the gun show today I picked up an Arisaka T38. Just tore into it a few mins ago and it's almost all matching. Mum is intact. Some minor surface pitting that had already been removed. Bluing is pretty decent... maybe 90%ish. Bore seems pitted and rifling a little worn, but should still shoot decently. Original Japanese characters painted onto the stock. Stock I thought had a crack, but ends up being an arsenal fix as after removing the buttplate, I can see it's dovetailed. Pics to come in a moment

Armistice 11-30-2013 9:38 PM

I forgot the pic of the bolt release mechanism, but it is matching as well

TRAP55 11-30-2013 9:47 PM

The stock on your SVT-40 is a Naval Infantry(Russian Marine) stock, and uses a Mosin dog collar on the rear with the SVT/PPSh sling. Not as common as the standard SVT/AVT stocks.

That sounds familiar. SyntaxError told me what stock it was, but I thought he said it was AVT. So it's Naval... ok, cool. Thanks

TRAP55 11-30-2013 9:57 PM

It is a Naval Infantry select fire AVT-40 stock. I "think" all of the Naval Infantry stocks may be AVT-40 stocks, at least all the ones I've seen have been.

Armistice 11-30-2013 10:15 PM

Oh ok. I just wasn't fully correct. Got it

You seem to have covered all of the major food groups there. All the good stuff... Mausers, Mosins, Garand, SKS..

Final verdict:

WINNING!

Thanks, Bobby!

That is a lot of action since only April. I am of the opinion that hitting the C&R habit hard is a good thing. Buy now and buy often! I got my first SKS less than 2 years ago and I now have about a dozen or so keepers (had 16 before I started selling a few for diversifying into other stuff). Got my first Mauser 6 months ago, now I have 10 of them. 6 Mosins, 3 Garands, and so on and so forth. I refuse to consider any other platforms because it will most certainly put me in the poor house!! Now that I have CMP ordering figured out I want a few more Garands. A non capture K98 would be nice too. Got a 1903a3 inbound and a Tula M44, with a Standard Modell Banner Mauser in jail too. Then there is the Eddystone. It is impossible to stick to one niche with C&R stuff.

Armistice 11-30-2013 10:48 PM

The Mausers are the only double I have because I got the Czech, but wanted an actual German one (even if it's an RC, it's still German parts)

Here is my Grandpa's 1952 Winchester M70 30-06 that my Uncle has let me temporarily buy

Grandpa had cut the stock and put on the recoil pad. He also D&T'd the receiver for the Weaver scope. Used it for deer hunting

Armistice 12-01-2013 6:48 PM

Ok, posted the butt stock on my dad's FB page hoping he had a friend that is Japanese. One of his friend's friends is Japanese and said it says "Treasure 288". I'm pretty sure they didn't come painted from the factory like that. So a soldiers doing? Something from/for a family post war? Any ideas or guesses?

pitfighter 12-01-2013 8:04 PM

The SVT with the AVT stock is neat.
I think I like your grandpas' Winchester the best, though!

Deimos887 12-02-2013 2:50 AM

Not real familiar with Arisakas, but just enough to know specimens with the mums unmolested are uncommon :)

Gotta agree with pit though, im diggin that old Model 70, thats awesome, more pics of her? :D

Armistice 12-02-2013 7:14 AM

I'll get more pics tonight maybe

poriggity 12-22-2013 7:57 AM
