Bought my wife her first Rifle.
 

Marlin XT-22. She fell in love with the bolt action of it. Shes a pretty proficient shooter.

I'll eventually be looking to get her a basic optic for it. Any calgun "professional" suggestions. lol. Thanks guys.

I have one of the Centerpoint scopes from Wallyworld on my Marlin (795) and while it's certainly not Nikon glass, it is a very adequate scope and a great deal for the money.

I'm also going to be buying an XT-22 here shortly, I hear good things about them.

x2. I have the CP 4-16 on my .22 squirrel gun, the clarity past 10 or so is lacking, but usable, a 3-9 would probably be more appropriate.

Works pretty well for what it is, definitely not high end by any means but pretty affordable.

I also have a Bushnell 4x32 fixed power .22 scope from Walmart, it was appx $40 with dovetail rings, its pretty clear and works great as long as 4x is enough for her liking, I just find 4x to be a little weak for picking out squirrels in the brush.

Not taking away from the many other scopes available, those are just the sub-$70 scopes I have to comment about. If the P-22 is like my P-223 it's likely a very nice scope, but it is still more money than it sounds like you want to spend.

I just have a Barska 3-9x32 Plinker-22 on my XT-22. About 45 bucks at Amazon. Pretty good scope, clear at the center.

Appreciate the compliment. But never would I buy one of those! She'd be lose her mind and ask why I didn't buy a SCAR or something.

If you are looking for something under $50, I originally had this scope on mine when I first got it and it still gets the job done on the Marlin 60 it's currently on (even by my daughter when she shoots it): Simmons 22MAG 3-9x32
I know a scope like that might be blasphemy to some here, but it gets good reviews all over the place. :)
