Moving gun safe
 

I'm moving in the next couple weeks and need to move my 500lb safe down my stairs and then into my new house(upstairs).

The company I purchased it from a few years back does move it but it costs $5 a step and another $200 delivery…

Any tips? I'm in the Corona area...

I think it is cheaper leaving it where it is and getting another one!

( at least for me....)

I was told a bucket of golf balls it the trick. Put them on the floor and run the safe over them like ball bearings.

I can't attest to this method though, as I've never tried it.

That sounds like it would make the stair a lot more fun.

I use 1" steel pipe
 

I know when I move my safe I put three 1" dia x 32" long pipes under it spaced out and roll the safe over them. It seems to work on flat ground and over the carpet. Not sure about the stairs? I buy them from home depot in the pipe dept cheep.

500 pounds seems like a dolly would be just fine. Make sure you get one rated high enough and also one with straps. If you can find one with the stair belts that would be best. Id get a partner to help with the stairs.

I would remove the safe door using a car jack. It should half the weight of the safe. Use a heavy duty dolly to move the safe and door down the stairs separately. Don't do it alone, have couple friends help out.

Get about 8 friends to help or get those moving straps that you hang on top of your elbow joints

You'll need a heavy appliance dolly with stair roller belt and at least 3 STRONG friends to get it down your current stairs and up the new ones. Plenty of straps to secure it to the dolly, probably stair protectors if they're not carpeted. Plan on buying lunch and/or dinner and lots of frosty beverages as well.

(Note: Frosty beverage is consumer's choice. As I don't consume alcohol I can't recommend a particular type of frosty beverage (except for a good, micro-brewed root beer :D) so I leave it up to the buyer and end consumer to reach an appropriate accommodation)

500lbs? appliance dolly and a couple strong friends should do the trick.

keep in mind that an avg fridge is 275lbs and can be moved by one person with an appliance dolly.

It's worth every penny. Hire the movers.

My thoughts EXACTLY! Hire the movers and buy a 6 pack of your favorite beer. 3 for the move out of the first place and 3 for the move into the next one. As long as the beer stays cold you know they did an efficient job!

Remember, professional mover should be knowleable, experienced, and insured, if thing go bad.

stairs; Take some long 2x4's lay them down.
Take some heavy duty rope and make a pulley system and you can do all this by your self that 500lbs will become very light.

I hate to say it, but I think it's better to hire someone to move it......assuming the safe is worth moving.....Or get a bunch of friends, beer, and carne asada. Good bonding time also.

Give West Coast Safes a call. Also check on CL, there are people that move safes. I'm just not sure how I feel about a random person from CL moving a safe.

PM me , my son just moved mine in . Pretty much all by himself. He likes the work out lol . It was a 500 lbs . Just used a dolly and plywood for the small steps and the entry.

Check your local equipment supply rental company and see if they have one of these for rent.

I say check the local Craiglist for moving company.

Try also calling West Coast Safes.

I used a come-along and sliders to move mine down a hallway.
(It helps to have an opening to put a timber across.)

I just moved recently same thing had the safe upstairs 500lbs too. I took the door off and carried that down seperate. Then just used a furniture dolly me and my dad had it down in a matter of 5 minutes I wouldn't pay anyone to take it up or down just take your time and mainly use a furniture dolly good luck

A refrigerator dolly and a couple buddies.. Moved mine this way and it wasn't bad.. But I also had no stairs..
