HK MP5 .22 thoughts?

Anyone have any experience with these? turners had them at $479.99

sjg1966 05-14-2013 2:37 PM

They look quite fun. I just thought they felt too much like a "toy". I got the Umarex HK 416-22. It's very solid feeling compared to the ATI/GSG MP 5-22.

boarder010 05-14-2013 2:39 PM

I got one during the spring turners sale and I got to say, it's a lot of fun and super accurate! has some weight to it, so can be a bit tiring to shoot for longer sessions. insanely hard to find extra mags for a non-ripoff price. I would recommend if you are leaning towards one.

I'm planning to get a claw mount and reflex sight for it next. The iron sights are great but it's hard to use with with earmuffs on.

LADave 05-14-2013 3:00 PM

the only thing holding me back is the cheesy faux suppresor ...looks too big in my opinion

Tracer666 05-14-2013 5:16 PM

I got one but its the SD version! I LOVE ITTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they even make a fixed stock for it, which for the people that really hate the wobble in the collapsible stock, its a great fix! Good luck in your choice! :cheers2:

I just started my Dros today on one in Signal hill today, can't wait for my ten days to end.

Nice toy. I bought mine after Christmas 2012, put a vortex sparc on top and while shooting @ Insight Indoor Range in Artesia laat month when 3 guys 2 lanes on my right were looking at me shooting them they talked to the Range Officer. After I done shooting the range officer told me that the guys were wondering why I have a suppressed MP5 in California.. Hehehehehe

It shoots tight too.... I will put in fixed stock, soon

Mp5marley 05-14-2013 7:44 PM

same here! I was at an outdoor ranged and someone asked me if I was suppressed, I said yes! LOL. Only negatives is cleaning can be a little tough. No tools are needed for dissassembly. Do not settle for a cheap *** ATI or GSG-5 plastic junker! Get the Walters umarex MP5! Deadly accurate with just Iron sights. There are several rails that will fit but they are hard to install (patience). PM me and i'll share any best practices or advice. Duh! Look at my call name! Woot Woot!

Creampuff 05-14-2013 7:50 PM

Do you need a tool to twist off the fake can, or will it just twist off by hand? I'm thinking on some trips to the range, I don't want curious busy bodies looking at my direction. I might just twist it off and shoot with the skinny barrel.

Not that I own one yet, but just thinking about that scenario.

Felix168 05-14-2013 8:04 PM

I wish I can find one here at that price...

jay_cue 05-14-2013 8:34 PM

went with a friend to pick his up and brought along my sons CZ 452 scout along. the stock seems quite short. felt pretty solid to me. only thing for me is with how compact it was, shooting with the iron sights have you "hunched" in pretty tight to shoot. to me this feels more of an outdoor gun, and spend a day just shooting stuff. I think it may be a little more fun/comfortable shooting with a red dot where you wouldn't have to try aiming. I don't see this a gun that would be fun shooting paper targets. I recently picked up the CZ too and surprisingly ended up falling in love shooting it. my friend seemed to also like shooting the CZ over the HK/Umarex MP5. not sure how that matters really, unless you don't have a bolt action 22 and may look into one of those instead.

If the Walther/Umarex is built like the HK416-22 then I'd get one too. Noth the ATI or GSG though.

nicki 05-15-2013 2:15 AM

Have the GSG and have problems.

I got the GSG and it fails to fire, first time at range.

I ran different brands, but in all honesty I just took it out of the box and tried shooting.

Anyone else have misfires with this gun or is it just my stupidity for not scrubbing out gun before shooting?

Nicki

Sorry, but you are confused. The ATI MP5 feels like a toy, The HK MP5A5 .22lr is nearly the same weight as a 9mm / 10mm MP5. I held both and its fairly clear the HK MP5A5 .22lr is a solid firearm, so I bought it.

Its a great firearm and I have been killing tennis balls at 50+ yards since I bought it.

Only complaint is the A5 stock doesnt have a cheek rest since its a slider. I may go and buy a solid stock.

The HK MP5 comes with a tool to remove the can.

Just to be clear,
ATI is a GSG-5, a fake clone of the HK MP5. While ok for a plinker, is not built to the same standard as the Walther HK MP5

ATI came out with a MP5 clone. HK got pissed. Filed a law suit against them. ATI had to change the external appearance. HK then asked Walther to produce their MP5 in .22lr form, and have their parent company Umarex import it.

Umarex is the importer.
Walther is the manufacture / modified the design for ,22lr.
HK is the original designer.

Umarex is the parent company and distributor / importer for Walther.

I'm not confused, I was referring to the ATI/GSG. Walther/Umarex are of a much better quality, I just picked up a Walther/Umarex HK416-22 last week.

xxINKxx 05-15-2013 6:28 AM

I purchased the gsg5 back when they first came out and were super hard to get. It's fun, like a high powered air soft gun.

I haven't had any issues with my umarex hk at all and I was expecting some out of the box at least while breaking it in...worked like a champ. was using federal rounds.

agreed on this! I do feel hunched over trying to use the iron sights and it feels awkward with ear muffs on. I'm hoping my red dot will relieve the hunch.

@ sjg1966,
Not trying to argue with you, but your first reply to this thread was, "They look quit fun. I just thought they felt too much like a "toy". I got the Umarex HK 416-22. It's very solid feeling compared to the MP 5"

Since this thread was talking about the HK MP5 .22lr, and your comment seemed to be about the GSG, you appeared to be confused as to which firearm the OP was talking about.

If you feel the actual HK MP5 feels like a toy, then I am scratching my head, because its the one of the best 9mm SMGs made to date and nthere is no way to mistake them for toys. The Walther HK MP5 .22lr looks, feels and weighs nearly the same.

@ boarder010
The HK MP5 .22lr has an adjustable Bolt to slow and speed it up according to the ammo you use, so even if you have trouble with some ammo, its a quick adjustment to dial it in. I too was using federal Bulk value ammo, and the only FTF were dud rounds. I know this because I was also shooting my Savage MKII TR and had some FTF also.

What ammo are you using? standard velocity or High Velocity 22 LR Ammo.. It needs 22LR HV ammo, if you use standard velocity, you will get a lot of Failure to Eject/ or load or double load.

Umarex/Walter HK MP5SDhas adjustment for HV and Standard ammo, but I just use HV on m Umarex/Walter HK MP5S, it loves Remington GB 22LR 40 gr HV.

I have 2 Bolt Action CZ 452, Style and American and a custom 10/22.

2 walter/Umarex 22 LR, HK MP5SD and AK-47 22LR Rebel Edition.

If i want to shoot at Out-door ranges, I bring and used my CZ bolt action and Custom 10/22 and shoot @ 50-100 yards, I will try beyond 100 yard up to 200 yards next outing.

If Im going to an in-door range, I always bring my HK MP5SD with Vortex Sparc on top...

I have not fired my AK-47 22LR, yet. I got it last March 2013. I probably make this an indoor 22LR rifle using iron sight. I am deciding if I will put a POSP 3-9x42V on Ak mount on it,

I put a fixed stock on mine and added a Primary Arms red dot sight andnit feels super nice. The only time I have FTF is when I rest the gun on the mag.

Was out yesterday at the rimfire silhouette at Sac Valley and was hitting 8 out of 10 targets at 50 yards. Super fun gun!

majtom94 05-18-2013 4:45 PM

That must have been the gun that Big 5 had that drove me to the lighter rifle GSG-522 and saved $100.

gil671 05-19-2013 7:09 AM

I have the Umarex HK mp5SD. No problems what so ever. Got it at Turners too.

crazychinaman 05-20-2013 6:58 AM

Just make sure you buy the Umarex brand, not the other brand GSG.The umarex is better quality.

Very fun gun. Probably the gun I like to shoot most out of the few firearms I have.... but time for something new, think I'm going to post my GSG-5 (ATI) for sale soon. Bunch of little bolt-on parts, GSG red dot, and 5 mags.

Agreed!

2nd Mass 05-20-2013 5:03 PM

I've been eyballing this at Turners as well. Only thing that stops me is the only mags I've found are at gun shows for over $50! That and in December Turners was selling it for $429 and have raised their prices on it several times. Not gouging per say but still...

Norcalkid 05-23-2013 12:34 AM

I have one in the mail. Looking forward to trying it. Just in case anyones curious what they are going for I paid $475 last Friday.

DMorris2321 05-23-2013 6:23 AM

Anyone now where you can find rebuild kits for these, I already bought a couple of 10 rounders, but would like some rebuilds for when I go out to Arizona.

dut 05-23-2013 6:31 AM

^ How about a 110rd drum? :D

*gotta leave it in AZ somehow* Lol

DMorris2321 05-23-2013 8:20 AM

I have a river place in Arizona for my fun stuff:D

i have the SD version, far from a toy:rolleyes: super fun to plink @ the range

i just stick to "HV".22 as stamped on rifle.. i was @ range 5-4-13 ammo used..

1.200-300 rounds federal 36gr HV value pack

2. 40 rounds of CCI 36gr HP

3. 40 rounds of Winchester superX 40gr

when i used about 1/2 box of federal i just sprayed some CLP in the bolt and

cycled manually via charging handle, just in case any carbon built up. it was 1st

time @ range with .22 to "beak in"

no problems except only limited to 10 round mags, i only brought 2 since i had

my AR w/me also....

i have some Rem GB but im waiting to plink w/those on thier own since they

have a "dirty" rep ;)

Norcalkid 05-26-2013 11:52 AM

Just started the DROS today. Was really surprised how heavy and sturdy it felt. Can't wait to shoot it.
