They closed in 1968.
Springfield Armory Inc, a private company, was formed in 1974 and is located in Illinois.

Maybe its a typo.

1794 or 1974, or 1479???

Thats cool. I never knew they came in black, with frontstrap checkering, extended magwell, adjustable sights, guide rod, and "tactical" engraving on the frame. Mine is the same 2-tone Black/OD Green fixed night sight, pachmyer gripped Operator you see everywhere else.

Now that I think about it, yours looks just like the TRP Operator, but with a shortend rail/dust cover. Very very nice.

Here are some pictures of my first .45 -- a 1939 National Match Colt M1911A1, equipped with a Swartz safety, purchased from the great-grandson of the original owner.

they also bought the right to use the name Springfield Armory, which dates back to 1794.

like it or not, I will buy a Springfield before a Colt or kimber, mostly due to the series-80 safeties on those two.

ARRRR-15 11-24-2006 10:43 AM

Here's mine. I just can't seem to get it to work right. I've tried everything.:D

Thats exactly what it is, 06 TRP Operator. Short rail is new, the full rail is no longer in production on off the shelf models that I know of.

Yea, I know the safety is off, I had just cleared it, closed the slide and put it down. It's my only 1911, a '69 NM I bought used about 11 years ago. That is, until 12/4 when I get to pick up my new stainless XSE (my birthday present to myself).:D

A rare Colt. Take good care of it!

Most of the Swartz equipped Colts were shipped to Europe after the Army began placing the orders for the WWII guns.

Quite a crappy photo..... BUT.....

This is one of my SA Loaded Operators. Bone stock except for the VZ DiamondBack grips that I've added.

When I eventually end up getting around to it, both of my Operators are going to spend some quality time with Yost-Bonitz. :D

How does the Brown SF compare to the SA Pro's? Not just aesthetically but at the range?

Thanks.

Tzvia 12-04-2006 8:09 PM

Then there were two...
http://home.earthlink.net/~l.segal/images/2colts.jpg

Just picked up the stainless XSE earlier today. The other is my '69 NM. Hope I get the chance to shoot the XSE this weekend.

I understand that some are still made anew in Surf City.

In the new Book of the 1911 there is an amazingly good looking gold 1911 created by heating the metal and quenching it in motor oil.

Say it isnt so, the trick is not tin, but MOTOR OIL!!!

What 10w40? :D

It still boggles the mind that it is gold. Even tin boggles the mind as a way to get the gold color. Wonder if they can do other colors? Would be cool to see.

SVI will finish their guns in TiALN that they call Infinicoat. It is offered in black, gun metal gray, and black violet. The up charge on this finish is $329.95.
