SoCal Shotgun/Skeet Clinics - NEW DATES and SIGN-UP Rosters

All clinic information (except for available dates) can be found on the "SoCal Shotgun/Skeet Clinics Information Page" sticky at the top of the shotgun forum. That sticky includes ALL information you will need EXCEPT currently scheduled clinic dates and sign up.

THIS sticky contains all clinics currently scheduled, and lists those presently confirmed to attend the respective clinics.

The ONLY way to register for a clinic is to send me a PM (trapperjohn) http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/member.php?u=163155 with your name(first and last), screen name, cell phone number, requested clinic date, and how many attendees will be in your group. The cost is $30 per person.

To avoid the possibility of cancellation, a minimum registration of six shooters will need to be met for each clinic, at least five days before the scheduled clinic date. This is to enable proper planning and staffing. If six shooters are not registered for any given clinic, the clinic MAY be cancelled. if so, those registered will be notified via PM within two days of the scheduled clinic date.

It is important to understand that "No shows" for a clinic are VERY HIGHLY, GINORMOUSLY, DOUBLE ANGRY FACE, FROWNED UPON!! The SoCal Shotgun/Skeet clinic team generously provide their time and expertise for the benefit of new shooters and the shotgun sports.

When a shooter signs up for, but fails to come to the clinic, it potentially denies a spot at that clinic for someone that may have really wanted to come, except that clinic was full. NOT COOL. Please be as considerate of others as you would like them to be of you - if you sign up, COME SHOOT!

What to know when you come to the clinic:

The clinic starts when Triple B Clays opens at 8:00am (except the rare weekday clinics, which start at 10:00am), and will typically go 3-4 hours. It is important that you arrive at least 15 minutes early so everyone can get sorted out before the Pro Shop opens. If you do not have your own gun, please plan on renting one from the Triple B Clays Pro Shop.

If you have never shot at triple B Clays before, you will also need to get to the Pro Shop right when they open and sign the waiver form. Tell them you are with the Don Ziegler clinic and they will not require you to fill out a portion of the form relating to safety rules, as the clinic will cover those. If you have shot at the club within the past year, you do not need to sign a new waiver.

While you're at the pro shop, purchase two rounds of Skeet targets, and any ammo you need to use in the gun you will be using (if you don't bring your own), and you'll be set.

Don't forget eye and ear protection, as explained in the clinic stickies.

Be sure to ask Captain Dick to explain what a proper fitting gun should feel like to you.

Thank you very much for your interest, support, and understanding! We look forward to seeing you on the field!

NEW clinic dates are up! Come and get 'em!!

trapperjohn 06-20-2015 4:59 PM

Three clinics already full!

Three that are in need of someone that wants to have a great time!

Come be a Ziegloid!

BigFatGuy 06-20-2015 5:49 PM

One of us! One of us! Gooba-goba! Gooba-goba!

trapperjohn 06-20-2015 8:04 PM

LOL! Nice BFG.

trapperjohn 06-26-2015 4:12 AM

Come on folks - 8/1 clinic is still nearly wide open -

Grab some friends and join BigFatGuy for a great outing breaking little flying saucers! You can pretend they're small UFOs and play Space Invaders live!

dankthetank 06-27-2015 6:31 AM

Unless anyone else has info, Rosemead is closed between San Gabriel and the 60 because of a possible shooting last night. Looks like the range isn't accessible any other way?

trapperjohn 06-28-2015 7:34 PM

Space available for July 11 and August 1 clinics - come and fill 'em!

shovelon 06-29-2015 11:48 AM

Don Ziegler's book is usually available at the end of each clinic. There is so much thrown at you during the clinic your mind is ready to explode. You can then review the steps at your leisure and be prepared for the next clinic if you so choose to attend. The cost for the book is $20 and a steal when combined with the clinic.

The book has illustrations or photos on nearly every one of the 42 pages. Here is a preview.

Thanks for the post of Coach Don's book! It is indeed chock full of great information.

If anyone is unsure of attending because they have never even touched a gun - don't be! The clinics are the best way to dip your toes in the water - fun, informative, safe, with NO intimidation whatsoever.

Come have a blast!!

trapperjohn 07-03-2015 8:31 PM

Clinics on 7/11 and 8/1 would be a great way to get nearly private shotgun/skeet instruction!

Clinics that are not at capacity are the best! - lots of instruction and lots of trigger time!

Come take advantage of these less crowded clinics!

BigFatGuy 07-03-2015 11:27 PM

Plus, you'll get to hear coach Z make fun of my ugly shotgun on 8/1!

trapperjohn 07-06-2015 5:55 AM

The weather is cooler this week! Perfect for getting out and learning something new...like safe shotgun shooting and clay target destruction!

The 7/11 clinic is just waiting for someone that wants to learn shotgun shooting, or just have a couple of excellent coaches help work on proper form and mechannics.

Come enjoy the weather and a unique sport all at the same time!

While this is true, you would be best served going to the 8/1 clinic
I need all the trigger time I can get... So, don't go to the 7/11 clinic...LOL...

trapperjohn 07-08-2015 8:37 PM

Now Charles, let's not be selfish.

trapperjohn 07-22-2015 8:34 PM

Well, now you've all done it! The remaining scheduled clinics are all FULL!!

Many thanks to the past and upcoming shooters that have shown such enthusiasm for these terrific clinics - they continue because of all the support each student shows by coming out and shooting.

New dates for clinics through the rest of 2015 will be posted by the end of this week - so come back to sign up early and often!

trapperjohn 07-23-2015 11:32 AM

New clinic dates through the rest of the year are posted - get 'em while their hot!

Is start time at 10am?

trapperjohn 07-23-2015 2:02 PM

Yes- it has to be: Triple B Clays opens at 10:00 weekdays.

trapperjohn 07-24-2015 8:44 PM

New clinic dates are posted - come break some clays.

Bump for the weekend visitors.

EatsEverything 08-15-2015 3:22 PM

Is this the appropriate place to announce impromptu practices?

Fred (fknauss) and I are planning to be at Triple B's on Sunday 8/16 at 8 am to work on skills. I'm also looking to try out different shotguns to see what fits.

Would anyone like to join us?

spacedoc 08-15-2015 3:44 PM

I'm shooting the Calskeet event at 9am. I'll stop by and say hi either before or after if you guys are still there.

trapperjohn 08-15-2015 7:15 PM

I'm hiking another mountain...

Sign up for more clinics. It's amazing how it will help when you go practice!

Good luck and safe shooting.

We ended up shooting trap instead of skeet (I didn't think I was ready to shoot a full round of skeet yet, and not being members we only had access to the public range - I'd probably shoot about a 10 and develop more bad habits than reinforce good ones).

Trap was a lot of fun, though. I'd totally do that again.

EatsEverything 08-18-2015 9:56 PM

Going to be out of town for the next two, but I'll be back in September.

Any chance someone has a Citori Crossover Target or Silver Pigeon I I can try out?

trapperjohn 08-19-2015 2:26 AM

I have a Citori GTI, but it's set up for left handed shooting. You're welcome to try it if you shoot lefty.

I also have a Citori GTI you can try...It's setup for a right handed shooter.
The GTI is similar to the Crossover Target, the rib on the Crossover is a little higher than on the GTI, otherwise, the same gun.

I'll be at the 9/26 clinic...

BigFatGuy 08-19-2015 4:38 PM

I don't know if we share any dates... But I'm left handed. :-)

BFG, IF....and that's a big IF, I get my primary gun back in time for the 9/26 clinic, I can set one of my O/U's up for a leftie...

Alright, I'm coming. Could you bring your Citori with you?

CSACANNONEER 09-23-2015 8:25 AM

Is his book available anywhere else?

Not that I know of. Don brings them to the clinics if he is not sold. With that said I keep a couple extra at the ready in different places when I need a sanity check.

EatsEverything 12-07-2015 11:50 PM

What are we looking at for the new year?

C6_Rob 01-03-2016 3:34 PM

I put my request in for 1/17, hopefully its not raining!

C6_Rob 01-17-2016 7:25 PM

Had an excellet time at the skeet clinic today. Don and Richard were awesome! Thanks!

sandiego67 01-24-2016 3:17 PM

Is there a clinic scheduled for 1/30/16?

I have PM'd Trapper John but haven't heard back.

I shot some Sporting Clays with him yesterday, and he asked me if I was going to the 1/31 clinic. It sounded like there would be one, but I don't see anyone signed up...I don't think Don or Richard will show up for no students.

EatsEverything 01-24-2016 7:52 PM

Co-worker may be interested in this, but I won't know till during the week.

trapperjohn 01-24-2016 8:44 PM

Sandiego67 - I apologize for not responding, but I have not received a pm from you.

Ceh - I was going by memory when I mentioned a clinic on Sunday- the clinic is certainly scheduled for Saturday 1/30.

Eats and sandiego67 - just pm me by Wednesday with info. I send the attendance list to Capt. Dick on Thursday.

Eats - I have the cleaning kit for you. Let me know how to get it to you.

Come on out! The weather should be perfect, and less crowded clinics mean more time on station, and so, more education!

Good luck and safe shooting.
