AR Newbie, what do I need/should I buy?
As the title states I'm somewhat of an AR noob, I grew up shooting pistols and shotguns but I had never shot a rifle until I rented one at the range last week. I instantly got AR fever and have made a few purchases since then :).
This is my build so far: PSA lower PSA parts kit Fulton BCG BCM Gunfighter CH mod 4 BCM 16" CL upper 1/7 twist (complete) Magpul MOE Stock/grips/handgaurds FDE MAD flip up iron sight (rear) Boonie Packer Sling 4 10/30 pmags 600 rounds Ammo I recently received a $100 Cabelas gift card and I'm wondering what you'd reccomend I put it toward....I realize I'm lacking on Optics...but I'm not sure i can justify an Eotech as this is going to be a basic range/self defense gun....any suggestions? |
If you are planning on shooting relatively close range... http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunti...3Bcat104526180

I am...but is it worth it to throw a couple of bucks on top of the giftcard? I've been eyeing the Vortex Strikefire or possibly the Burris AR Prism. I'd rather spend a little more up front if I'll be happy with it in the long run....or should I just sack up and spend a few hundred more for a lower end EOtech and call it a done deal?

Maybe some tools. Even a case. Do you need a muzzle brake ?
|
If you haven't shot it yet then go shoot a couple hundred rounds and get the feel of it and then decide what it needs. I'm thinking it really only needs more ammo. :D
|
You have the rifle. Buying an optic based on what others tell you now is like asking other people what color car to buy. The choice is a personal one.
I'd buy the extras noobs forget about, like an extra Bolt, Spring / pin repair kit, a high quality bag/case and some high end eyes and ears. |
AMMO.........DAMNIT!
600 rounds ain't chit. |

OP, get ammo! Rifle with no ammo is like a car with no gas. A giant paperweight. Does not go bad, easy to store or sell and only goes up in value...a good investment! Robert |
Like others have already stated...ammo. Another 400 rounds (1000 total) to store and 500-1000 rounds to shoot. Check the Marketplace but take your time to find a good deal cause they're out there if you're patient.
