Socal Desert Shooting Area

Hi
Could anyone shed some lights where we can shoot in the SOCAL desert???
I have lots of steel core ammo that I bought in 90's and can't shoot them in the range. ..Thx

How far do you want to drive? Stay north of Hwy 58 and your fine, from Barstow to Mojave. Stay out of the desert tortoise areas, clean up tour trash and don't shoot old signs and buildings.

You can also look into Desert Marksman, private range out by Palmdale.

shoot steel core

I was told A Place To Shoot in oxnard is a indoor range that allows all ammo. If you do take a drive to barstow or any other desert let me know id like to come along. Could meet at a fast food or gas station and follow each other to finde a place to shoot.

Not so fast. Steel core ammo is not allowed in the desert.

There is a map that shows where you can shoot what in San Bernadino County. Basically you want to be north of Barstow (either on the 15, or the 58) to shoot rifles or handguns. If you are just shooting shotguns, you have more options. This map explains why a lot of people go to Hodge Road - it's the first spot off of a major freeway you can shoot at.

Even then - use common sense, and make sure that none of your lead ends up beyond where you can see - some of us putt around out there and get annoyed when we have anonymous lead flying over our heads.

Join us for a desert clean and we would be happy to shed some light on the location. We could definitely use the help!

It's called Shooter's Paradise (A Place to Shoot is in Saugus), they allow you to shoot steel cased ammo for rifles but they are very picky with centerfire pistol ammo. It has to be a lead free non-mercuric primer.

THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS BASED ON WHAT THE OP SAID.
